# Delete a member

As an Administrator or Account owner, your can remove members from the list when they leave the company or do not use their Spendesk account.

# Remove a member on Spendesk

head over to **Settings > Organisation > Members.**

* Click on the member you want to delete.
* Click on **the red link at the bottom** in the new window that pops up: "remove the member from your company".
* Follow the instructions in the new window and then check the box that reads I **acknowledge and confirm.**

* Before attempting removal, verify that the member has no active subscriptions by checking their profile and canceling any active ones if found.
* Ensure there are no pending approval dependencies that need reassignment or cancellation.

# What happens when you remove a member?

* Their **single-use cards** are deactivated.
* The **subscriptions** can be transferred to another user, and this action **cancels the card** for security reasons. The new subscription owner is notified, and needs to generate a new card as well as update the payment details in the merchant's website. See [this guide](https://helpcenter.spendesk.com/en/articles/4056966-transfer-your-subscription-s-ownership) for more info.
* **Their physical card will be deactivated** and removed from the platform.
* The member **won't be able to log in** again or access their company account on Spendesk.
* Also, [email reminders](http://helpcenter.spendesk.com/en/articles/4030682-set-up-your-company-s-notifications) will no longer work.
* Controllers and Team Managers can continue to **upload missing receipts** on behalf of the removed user.

# Why Can't I Delete a Member?

There are a few scenarios where a user cannot be removed:

* **If your company is based in the UK**, you cannot delete a member who has active subscription cards. These cards must first be cancelled.- For users in the UK, cancel the subscriptions connected with the UK wallet under the member’s profile by identifying the specific subscriptions and ensuring they are active before proceeding. See [this guide](http://helpcenter.spendesk.com/en/articles/4056966-transfer-your-subscription-s-ownership) for more details.
* **If the user is the account owner** or **organisation owner**, they cannot be deleted. These roles must first be transferred to another member. See [this guide](http://helpcenter.spendesk.com/en/articles/4799486-transfer-the-account-organization-owner-roles) for more information.- If the system indicates that approvals are pending, reassign or cancel these pending approvals to proceed with member removal.
* **If you are using the HR Integration** to [automatically manage removals](http://helpcenter.spendesk.com/en/articles/8469957-spendesk-s-native-hr-tools-integrations), you cannot manually remove a connected member. They must be marked as inactive in the HR tool, and the integration will handle the rest.
