How to fix Duplicate Custom Variation Label Error

When attempting to upload your Shopify product to eBay, you might encounter an error known as "Duplicate Custom Variation Label." This issue arises when the SKU (Stock Keeping Unit) in your product variants is identical. It's important to note that this error can occur regardless of the category you select for the upload, as eBay mandates a unique SKU for each product to ensure a successful upload.






How did the issue occur?


We have an example product that was tried to upload but failed due to a "Duplicate Custom Variation" error.

As evident, the product features an identical SKU, AERODYNAMIC , across all its variants. You can verify this by clicking on the Shopify icon, which will redirect you to the Shopify products page, where you'll confirm that the SKU remains the same.

How to resolve the issue?


To resolve you need to click the "Resolve" icon on the Remarks section of the failed product. Upon clicking a modal is popped out which describes the ways.

Since the error is caused due to SKU, you can resolve it in 2 ways:


  1. Change the SKU manually in each variant of the Shopify product
  2. Click on the "Generate a unique SKU and upload for this product only" on the modal and try to upload


If you click on "Generate a unique SKU and upload for this product only" then our app will generate a unique SKU and upload it to your eBay. Please Note that we won't change the existing SKU in your Shopify. It will be interlinked in our app so you don't need to worry about the inventory, or order sync once the product is successfully uploaded.


You can check "Apply this for all products". If this button is checked future products which may contain this same issue will be auto-resolved by generating a new SKU. This option is enabled only after you have checked "Generate a unique SKU and upload for this product only"

Once everything is done please click on the "Replace and Upload" button to upload. Your product will now try to upload and if there are not any further errors it will be uploaded successfully.
