Which file extensions and sizes can I upload to Crisp?

Crisp lets you upload files through Crisp Inbox, Campaigns and other Crisp products. For security reasons, all file types and sizes cannot be accepted. This article explains the security limits of our file upload feature.

Maximum file sizes

A limit is applied on the size of a file that can be upload to our systems:

  • Default limit: 10MB
  • CSV files limit: 10MB
  • GIF files limit: 3MB (we may downsize the image)
  • JPG files limit: 12MB (we may downsize the image)
  • WEBP files limit: 12MB (we may downsize the image)
  • PNG files limit: 12MB (we may downsize the image)

Allowed file extensions

Crisp allows file extensions based on a whitelist. This means that any file extension not on this whitelist will be forbidden.

Why cannot I upload archives? (eg. zip, rar, etc.) — Archives can be used to hide viruses or nasty files. Other platforms on the market forbid sharing archives through their platform (eg. Gmail on all outbound and inbound emails). This is to ensure people using the platform are protected from hidden viruses or phishing attempts. Files that are shared through Crisp must be sent directly and not be compressed / hidden.

Why did my file get deleted? — A virus scanner is running on certain file extensions that you upload on our systems (eg. doc, xls), as certain extensions are known to be used to infect computers when opened. After a file is uploaded or received from an email, we will instantly remove it from our systems if it contains a virus. Note that we may also expire certain heavy files after some time, though we never remove images and more lightweight files.

A file extension you'd like to upload on the Crisp Inbox is not allowed? Contact our support and tell us about it. We may allow this file extension in the future.
