# How to change the chatbox welcome message

__This article explains how to change the welcome message shown in your Crisp chatbox.__

The welcome message is the first greeting visitors see when they open the chatbox. A clear and friendly message can encourage visitors to ask their question and understand what kind of help they can expect.

|| Changing the welcome message only changes the text displayed in the chatbox. It does not change how the widget itself loads on your website.

---

# Change the default welcome message

You can edit the default greeting from your chatbox appearance settings.

__To change the welcome message:__

1. Open [**Crisp**](https://app.crisp.chat).
2. Go to ****Settings → Chatbox Settings → Chatbox Appearance****.
3. Open ****Welcome Message****.
4. Select or edit the message you want to display.
5. Let Crisp auto-save your change.

# Send proactive welcome messages

A default welcome message appears when the visitor opens the chatbox. If you want Crisp to proactively send a message based on visitor behavior, use ****Triggers**** instead.

Triggers can help you start conversations based on rules such as page visited, time spent on the website, or other visitor behavior.

| See [How to use Triggers](/en/article/how-to-use-triggers-pq0znd/) to learn how automated live chat messages work.
